After a three-year hiatus, the Lake George Moonglow is coming back to the Village this Saturday, Sept. 23. Hot air balloons will be in Battlefield Park on Beach Road in the afternoon, and balloon pilots will offer tethered rides. At approximately 8 p.m., operators will fire up the burners to illuminate their balloons. The Adirondack Balloon Festival opens today and runs through Sept. 24 at the Floyd Bennett Memorial Airport in Queensbury, N.Y.
According to a Village press statement, the tradition of a Lake George Moonglow began as a way to honor Glens Falls native and Adirondack Balloon Fest founder Walt Grishkot. Past moonglows in Lake George have featured music with balloon burner’s synchronized to the music’s beat.
The event comes as the Lake George Steamboat Company celebrates its bicentennial with a festival at the Deuce Moose Café across from the Steel Pier. The Steamboat Company’s Family Festival features live music, a magic show, two bounce houses and an inflatable obstacle course. A farmers market/craft fair will be at the festival with vendors including Adirondack Aromatherapy, AJB Metalsmithing, Erin Elizabeth Ceramics, Maple Acres Farm, Springbrook Hollow Farms Distillery, Adirondack Winery and The Dog Cabin.
The Family Festival kicks off Saturday, Sept. 23 at 9 a.m. and continues to 6 p.m. Fireworks over the lake begin at 9:30 p.m. The Family Festival will continue on Sunday, Sept. 24, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission to the Festival and moonglow is free.
The Lake George weekend closes Sunday evening with Marshall Tucker at the Festival Commons on West Brook Road. Local favorite Skeeter Creek and Country Fresh, a modern country band, will open for the iconic Southern rock group. The concert begins at 3 p.m. Advanced general admission tickets are $20, $30 at the gate. VIP passes are available. Tickets may be purchased online at Eventbrite or at these local ticket outlets:
