The Adirondack Nationals Car Show kicked off at 7 a.m. this morning. By 8 O’clock, the streets of Lake George Village were lined with hot rods, classic vehicles, custom cars and hundreds of spectators. Public parking on Village streets and in public parking lots is metered, and meter enforcement is in effect this weekend. The going rate is $1 to $2 per hour. For spectators who wish to spend the weekend at the car show, a Village of Lake George parking permit may be a better option.
A parking permit for Friday and Saturday is $35. For Saturday only, the cost is $30. A permit allows drivers to park at any legal public parking spot in Lake George Village. A legal spot is one with a meter or pay-and-display kiosk. Village employees are selling permits in Shepard Park and in front of the Visitor Center on the corner of Beach Road and Canada Street.
Parking gets tight in town as the crowds grow leading up to the popular Canada Street Night Car Crusin’. Friday and Saturday, 7 to 10 p.m., vehicles registered with the show will make a continuous loop along Beach Road and Canada Street showing off all their glory. Saturday night’s cruise will be followed by a fireworks show over Lake George. A few private entities have opened up their parking lots to the public for the Adirondack Nationals weekend.
St. James Episcopal Church on Montcalm Street is offering $10 all-day parking. Shoreline Boat Sales on Sewell Street and the Lake George Forum on Canada Street both have $20 all day parking. Another parking option is the Beach Road Bait & Tackle Shop, which is not on Beach Road but on Canada Street in front of the Holiday Inn. We were unable to reach the bait shop to get a price, but in the past, their parking rate has been competitive.
A note for hot-rodders who are thinking of leaving some rubber on Route 9: This morning the Warren County Sheriff Department set up a Traffic Safety Unit at the North end of Lake George Village.
