Runners of all ages, some with dogs on leashes and some with babies in strollers, participated in the 9th Annual Adirondack 5K race held Saturday morning, Sept. 13. The race, part of the Great American Brewery Runs series, started and finished at the Adirondack Pub & Brewery on Canada Street in Lake George with 420 runners and walkers taking off at the 10 a.m. gun.
“The leaves are already beginning to change in Lake George, and this 5K takes runners on a scenic course with stunning lake views,” said Adirondack Pub & Brewery Owner John Carr in a pre-race press release. “With beautiful weather in the forecast, it’s the perfect day for our community of runners, outdoor enthusiasts, and craft beverage lovers to come together. September is one of the most picturesque times of year in Lake George—a perfect opportunity to gather for a memorable weekend in the Adirondacks.”
The 5K route brought runners through Wood Park along West Brook to the head of Lake George on Beach Road. Runners then continued to State Route 9L and Fort George Road, where participants ran through Lake George Battlefield Park before looping back to Adirondack Brewery. Race results will be posted at runsignup.com.
The Adirondack 5K is a chip-timed, certified USATF 5K. Runners have one hour to complete the race, which allows all training levels to participate. The entrance fee included unique ADK 5K race swag and a free beer or other beverage. The race afterparty, held outside the brewpub, featured live music, a food truck, yard games and a stein hoisting competition.
A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Lake George Land Conservancy, a not-for-profit trust that works with landowners to protect the Lake George watershed, thereby protecting the Lake George water quality.
