The Fort William Henry’s annual Field of Flags display on the hotel lawn has grown from 53 flags to more than 10,000, each representing American service members from the Colonial Era to the present day. The 2025 display will be open on Tuesday, November 4, through Veterans Day, Tuesday, November 11.
On Veterans Day, the fort will host a Wreath Laying Ceremony at the Field of Flags. Local dignitaries will make remarks, and historical reenactors will present a musket salute. The ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m.
Following the ceremony, the fort is offering a lunch buffet in the Fort William Henry Conference Center beginning at 11:30 a.m. Buffet tickets are $24 with net proceeds benefitting the Adirondack Vets House. Buffet items include soup, salad, bread, pasta, vegetables, chicken and beef entrees, and assorted desserts. Tickets may be purchased online at Fort William Henry’s Veterans Day Lunch webpage.
The Fort William Henry’s Field of Flags tradition began in 2016, with the museum asking visitors to submit the names of veterans they wished to honor. Originally, each name was attached to a small flag set directly into the lawn. As the display grew, the fort added large placards of names, sorted by military branch, then by era of service, alongside the field.
Visitors to the Field of Flags may park free of charge in the Fort William Henry Hotel’s South Lot at 48 Canada Street, Lake George. The museum will be open on Veterans Day and each weekend through November, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Visitors may tour the reconstructed 1755 fort and view exhibits, including the three new exhibits — the Powder Horn Exhibit, the Tailor Exhibit, and the Last of the Mohicans Exhibit.
