Lake George to ‘Lite up the Village’ at new location

It has become one of the most popular events in the Lake George calendar. Each year, the Village of Lake George welcomes in the holiday season with dazzling light displays, fireworks, a parade of lighted fire trucks, live music, carriage rides, a crazy sweater contest, and bounce houses. “Lite up the Village” traditionally is held in Shepard Park; however, due to construction in the park, the party has been moved to Beach Road in front of the Visitor Center.

The 2025 festivities will be held on Saturday, November 29, from 3 to 8 p.m. on Beach Road. The two westbound lanes will be closed to traffic to allow for a block party. Additionally, the eastbound lanes of Beach Road and Canada Street from Mountain Avenue to McGillis Street will be closed during the Parade of Holiday Lights.

Entertainment will begin at 3 p.m. with the Newell Family taking the stage, followed by live music with Rich Ortiz at 4 p.m. From 4:30 to 5:45 p.m., Susie Q and Matt Donnelly will entertain. At 5:45 p.m., Lake George Radio’s Walt Adams will emcee the Crazy & Ugly Sweater Contest. All ages are invited to compete in the over-the-top holiday sweater competition.

Following the sweater competition, entertainers will lead the crowd in a holiday sing-along that will conclude with a countdown to illumination. At 6:25, a sweater contest winner will throw the switch to light thousands of holiday lights strung throughout the Village. A fireworks display over Lake George will immediately follow the lighting.

The Parade of Holiday Lights will begin at 6:40 p.m. This year’s parade will include decorated fire apparatus from multiple fire companies, as well as vehicles entered by local small businesses and community organizations. The parade will travel from Lake George High School to Beach Road. Entries in the parade are competing for cash prizes.

Following the parade, prizes will be awarded to winning parade entries at the American Legion Post, 3932 Route 9L. Also, after the parade, the Lake George Fire Company will be hosting a Meet & Greet with Santa and friends at the firehouse on Ottawa Street.
