Columbus Day Weekend kicks off in Warrensburg with the Warrensburgh Riverfront Farmers’ Market’s 16th Annual Garlic Fest. The festival will be held on Friday, October 10, 3-6 p.m. at the Warrensburg Recreation Field Pavilion on Library Avenue.
Hope Valley Farm, Simply Garlic, Northeast Corner Herb Farm, and Juniper Hill Farm are among the producers offering multiple varieties of certified organic and certified naturally grown garlic for cooking and planting. Artisan food producers will be selling a wide range of garlic-infused products, including garlic salsa, pickled garlic-stuffed olives, garlic spice blends, and garlic-infused olive oil.
CCE Master Gardeners will be on hand to supply growing information and recipes. Market organizers are offering shoppers a free sampler plate of garlicy recipes, and shoppers may sample beverages, including garlic martinis. As always, the Market will have an urn of fresh-brewed coffee from which shoppers may help themselves to a free cup.
The Garlic Festival also features dozens of Adirondack artisans selling rustic furniture, vine wreaths, hand-crafted jewelry, natural soaps, cutting and charcuterie boards and much more. Shoppers will also find organic poultry, fresh eggs, cheeses and baked goods.
Richards Library Director Shelby Burkhardt will lead children in a free seasonal craft workshop with garlic and Halloween themes, both as hands-on and Take & Make projects. George Parrott will be providing live music.
New York State of Health (the NYS health insurance marketplace), Comfort Food Community and MVP Health Care will have kiosks with information and giveaways.
Shoppers can win $20 in Farmers’ Market Bucks, which may be spent with any of the vendors.
The venue has free and plentiful parking and restrooms. For more information, contact Market Manager Teresa Whalen at (518)466-5497 (text or phone), email taawhalen@yahoo.com.
