The Lake George Community Band Festival kicks off Friday, July 19 at 5 p.m. in Shepard Park. and will continue with music all day Saturday, July 20. This is the 15th year for the Festival, which is the largest gathering of community bands in the Northeast. The event is hosted by the Lake George Community Band and attracts musicians from across New York State, New England, Pennsylvania and Ontario.
Friday night will feature performances by jazz ensembles followed by a Cabaret event at the Georgian Resort’s Giovanna’s on the Lake restaurant. Admission to the Cabaret is free. Light food and drink will be available for purchase. The Georgian Resort is a few blocks north of Shepard Park. Entrance to the restaurant may be found at the back of the Georgian parking lot.
Saturday’s schedule begins at 11 a.m. and brings 10 bands to the stage. They will be performing traditional marches, show tunes, film soundtracks, contemporary works and orchestral transcriptions well into the night. Admission to the Community Band Festival is free. Attendees may bring folding chairs or blankets for seating. In the event of rain, the Lake George Community Band Festival will be moved to the Lake George High School Auditorium.
The Lake George Community Band formed in 2003 as a marching band to celebrate the Village of Lake George’s centennial. It has become an integral part of the area music scene with weekly concerts in Shepard Park throughout the summer and special performances in the spring, fall and winter. Thousands attend the Band’s Holiday Concert at the Lake George Firehouse each November during the annual Lite up the Village celebration.
