World’s Largest Garage Sale 2020 becomes another victim of COVID-19 health emergency

The Warrensburg Chamber of Commerce on Monday announced the 2020 World’s Largest Garage Sale has been canceled. In a social media post announcing the decision, Executive Director Suzanne Tyler wrote, “This was not a decision we arrived at lightly. We have been in frequent talks with local and state officials as well as our partners in the community. We feel that it is our responsibility to help flatten the coronavirus curve and keep our community safe. In order to do this, our Chamber’s Board of Directors have decided to cancel this year’s.”

Throughout the spring and early summer, organizers had been monitoring the health crisis to determine if the event could be safely held. This year would have been the 40th anniversary for the event, which attracts tens of thousands of visitors to Warrensburg and creates a carnival atmosphere in the small hamlet as several hundred vendors sell a wide range of items. The 2021 World’s Largest Garage Sale is scheduled for Oct. 1–3.
