Adirondack Adventure Center cuts ribbon on new tubing launch site

Adirondack Adventure Center celebrated a major expansion of its lazy river tubing business with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, June 30.  Local officials, representatives from the Lake Luzerne and Lake George Chambers of Commerce, employees, family and friends attended the riverside ceremony.

The company recently purchased 165 acres along the Buttermilk section of the Hudson River in Stony Creek to serve as a launch point for their lazy river tubing trips. “Obviously, this is a huge deal for us,” says Adirondack Adventure owner Dane Morton. “These upgrades really allow us to expand our business and make it safer and more convenient for everybody to come up and do tubing and experience the beauty of our area.”

Adirondack Adventure launched in 2009 offering white water rafting and lazy river tubing from their Lake Luzerne hub. In 2018, the company added tree-top adventure courses and zip lines. “The cool thing about that,” says Morton, “is a lot of people, when it’s cooler in the morning, they’ll do the treetop thing, then they hop right on one of our buses that pulls out in the afternoon and go tubing or whitewater rafting.”

Speaking about the growth of his business, Morton says, “The first summer I was open, I did 1,494 customers — I’ll never forget that number — and the best summer we had, it was 2020, we did 45,000.”

The expansion is phase one of a three-phase plan to upgrade the tubing experience. The new site allows for private access to the Hudson River and includes a private beach and island for the exclusive use of Adirondack Adventure customers. The site, located at 331 Warrensburg Road, Stony Creek, is a comfortable bus ride from the company’s base on Lake Avenue in Lake Luzerne.
