EVP Pro-Am Beach Volleyball Tour hits Lake George this weekend

July 13, 2017 — UPDATE: ALL GAMES ARE TAKING PLACE AT MILLION DOLLAR BEACH. THERE WILL BE NO VOLLEYBALL AT FESTIVAL COMMONS THIS YEAR.

More than 150 athletes from across the U.S. and Canada will compete on the sands of Million Dollar Beach this weekend, July 14 – 16, in the EVP Queen of the Lakes Pro Am Volleyball Tournament. The 18-stop tour is brought to Lake George by the Lake George Chamber of Commerce and CVB as part of an initiative to develop sports tourism in the area.

“We are thrilled to host this national event in our region and look forward to welcoming the volleyball athletes and their families to Lake George,” Kristen Hanifin, Lake George Special Events & Convention Services Director says in a press release. “Sporting events are growing in our area, and Lake George is truly becoming a ‘Sport-cation’ destination.”

The EVP Beach Volleyball Tour supports beach volleyball events to engage families, fans and athletes. Spectators have the opportunity to see professional athletes compete and they have the chance to interact with the pros by participating in contests and promotions at hosting venues. First-place  and second-place teams are awarded a bid to compete in the 2017 EVP World Finals of Beach Volleyball Championship at the Paradise Ocean Club in Hampton, Virginia on Aug.11  and Aug. 12.

“Lake George is a family destination that attracts thousands of visitors daily during the summer season. EVP is honored to bring its national athletes to compete in such a natural setting,” says Ross Balling, EVP Tour’s commissioner. “Our junior athletes will like the fact that the area has many water attractions and fun things to do. The beach volleyball venue on the shores of Lake George will be a very memorable backdrop for all of our athletes.”

Most of the action will be on Million Dollar Beach. Grass play will be held Saturday at the Lake George Festival Commons on West Brook Road. The event will be televised for national distribution. Spectators are welcome.
