Village to host drone light show during Kelly’s Angels festival fundraiser

More than 300 drones will fill the sky over Lake George as part of the Thursday, July 13 fireworks show. The show, which will be the first of its kind in the Lake George Region, comes at the mid-point of the Kelly’s Angels Summer-lovin’ Funfest, a three-night fundraiser for Kelly’s Angels, a charity founded by WNYT anchor Mark Mulholland dedicated to helping families that have lost a parent.

The fireworks and drone light show will be produced by Santore’s World Famous Fireworks Company. According to a Village press release, these shows, which were featured at the 2022 Shenzhen Olympics Opening Ceremonies, have become a popular alternative to firework displays, and although they are costlier, they are more environmentally friendly than pyrotechnic displays.

“The Village’s weekly shows average about $6,500 for 13-15 minutes, while a small 100-drone show of similar length could cost between $35 – $40,000,” says Village of Lake George Event Director Robert Blais.

The drones will be set up in Wood Park and flown over the Lake for approximately 15 minutes starting at 9:45 p.m. The fireworks and drones may be viewed from any point around the southern basin.

The Kelly‘s Angels Summer-Lovin’ Funfest kicks off on Wednesday, June 12 at 7 p.m. in Shepard Park as part of the Lake George Arts Project’s Summer Concert Series. Admission to the festival is free, however, donations to Kelly’s Angels are encouraged. The festival includes a beer and wine tent, food trucks, bounce houses and a large craft show.

Thursday’s events begin at 4 p.m. with the Jonathan Newell Band on stage followed by Bluz House Rockers. Funk Evolution closes the evening’s live music and will play up to the drone launch time. The local NBC affiliate will be broadcasting live from Shepard Park all day. The Summer-Lovin’ Funfest continues Friday with a Fridays at the Lake concert opening at 6 p.m. with Bluz House Rockers and headliner New York Players on stage at 7:30 p.m.

Organizers expect Thursday’s festival and drone show to draw thousands of spectators to the Village and suggest those attending arrive early to find parking and have time to enjoy the Village restaurants and shops.
