Ice bars returning to Lake George for winter 2023

Although 2023 is off to an unseasonably warm start, an Adirondack winter is bound to blow in. Several Lake George businesses are preparing to celebrate the plunging temperatures by opening outdoor bars carved from ice. Patrons will be able to embrace the cold while sampling special menus of food and drink while courageously braving the winter weather. Following is a list of ice bars coming soon to Lake George.

Adirondack Pub & Brewery turns the ice bar concept into a festival of ice sculptures including ice games and musical instruments carved from ice. The festival features the brewery’s craft beers, cocktails made from locally produced spirits and food specials. This is a family-friendly event. There is no charge for entry.

The 2023 Polar Ice Bar at the Fort is offering specialty drinks and foods with ice sculptures and fire pits. This winter, Executive Chef Dan Palmer is debuting a new menu for the resort’s Tankard Tavern that includes, for starters, charcuterie board, jumbo chicken wings, and fried portobello mushrooms. Entrees include thin-crust pizza, grilled ribeye steak, pork cassoulet, halibut, grilled shrimp tacos and shrimp scampi. The menu includes gluten-free and vegetarian options.

One of the first ice bars in the region, the Glacier Ice Bar & Lounge turns 18,000 pounds of ice into a bar, bar stools, sofas and chairs. The 2023 theme is Artic Wild, so patrons can expect ice penguins and polar bears as well.

Admission to the Polar Pub is included with each admission ticket to Ice Castles, and the pub will be open when Ice Castles is open. Beverages must be consumed at the ice bar, not carried through the ice castles. Children may join adults at the pub. Drink purchases are limited to two drinks per person. Ice Castles is scheduled to open on Jan. 27, 2023; however, the opening may be delayed because of the weather.
