Lake George Music Festival’s Family Concert entertains with music and theatre

The Lake George Music Festival presented the world premiere of Jordan Kuspa’s, “The Mystery of the Missing Music” Saturday, Aug. 21, in Shepard Park. The free Family Concert, geared towards children, asks the audience to decipher clues to locate the all-important missing sheet music.

Alexandra Cooke and Brandon Sarti of the Adirondack Theatre festival joined the orchestra to play the roles of Gemma and Jake, sleuths hired by the Maestro (played by LGMF Conductor and Music Director Roger Kalia) to find the missing music. A trickster had hidden the sheets and offered a series of clues to guide the duo on their hunt. The detective team must identify instruments in the orchestra and seek help from the musicians to solve riddles involving botany, geography, art and chemistry.

Composer Jordan Kuspa introduces his work, “The Mystery of the Missing Music,” at the Lake George Music Festival in Lake George, New York, Aug. 21, 2021.

After a year of virtual performances, the Lake George Music Festival is back in town with live performances. “We’re in person, we’re together again, and that is so important,” says Kalia.  “I can’t tell you how good it feels to make music with real musicians and not in a computer screen.” Each August (when there is not a global pandemic,) the LGMF brings world-class musicians together for two weeks of collaboration and camaraderie.

The is the 10th season for the Festival, and it is the first year they are performing in the historic Carriage House at the Fort William Henry Hotel. “That is our new concert hall … and that is going to be our home for years to come, hopefully,” says Kalia. The 2021 Music Festival continues through Wednesday, Aug.25. Tickets for performances may be purchased online at the LGMF website.
