Visitors to this weekend’s Italian Festival in Lake George were treated to Santa Lucia, eggplant caponatta, and an eclectic array of arts, crafts and locally produced foods. This is the second year for the festival, which drew several hundred to Shepard Park this Saturday and Sunday. While the sound of Italian opera and folk songs filled the park on Canada Street, the lake hummed with the racing speedboats of Performance Weekend.
The third weekend in May, prior to 2010, was The Queen’s Great Boating Weekend when boats from the Steamboat Company, the Sagamore and Shoreline cruises would race from Bolton Landing to Lake George Village. Performance Weekend, sponsored by Performance Marine of Bolton, features offshore powerboat demonstrations.
The two events kick off the summer season, which will go into high gear next weekend with the Memorial Day holiday followed by the Elvis Festival and the Americade Bike Rally in June. Visit the Lake George Chamber of Commerce website for a complete list of 2014 Lake George festivals and events.
