Lake George to dedicate new Shepard Park Stage with ribbon cutting and live music

The Village of Lake George is holding a dedication ceremony for the newly constructed Shepard Park Performance Stage on Friday, July 17, in the park on Canada Street.

Beginning at 11 a.m., the public may tour the new stage, which features a 46-foot-wide fold-up clamshell window in the back that will offer an unobstructed view of the lake and a lower level with space for performers to warm up, a small conference room, an art gallery space, and a room for the Shepard Park Beach lifeguards.

Live music will begin at noon with the Stony Creek Band taking the stage. At 1 p.m., Village officials will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The live music will resume at 1:45 p.m. with Blue Moon Band, followed by The Switch, Jonathan Newell, and Rich Ortiz.

At 6 p.m., the Fridays at the Lake Concert Series will open with Blues House Rockers. Headliner E.B. Jeb will take the stage at 7:30 p.m.

It has been a little over two years since an electrical fire destroyed the Shepard Park Bandshell. Free concerts and festivals continued in the park on a temporary stage during the 2024 and 2025 seasons. Construction of the new Performance Stage began last October with a ground-breaking ceremony. Last spring, as construction neared completion, Village Mayor Ray Perry said that though they suffered a tragedy, he saw an opportunity to build something greater.

The project included revamping the landscape surrounding the stage with enhanced seating and a new playground. Some of this work continues. Earlier this year, Perry told the Lake George Examiner that the Village has new playground equipment that Village workers would be installing later this summer.

The Shepard Park Performance Stage 2026 schedule includes free weeknight concerts and weekend festivals. The Lake George Arts Project’s Jazz at the Lake Festival is scheduled for Friday, September 18 through Sunday, September 20.

A June 2024 electrical fire destroyed the Shepard Park Bandshell at the start of the summer concert season. The Village utilized a temporary stage for the 2024 and 2025 seasons.
