On the road again: Lake George Trolley resumes service Memorial Day weekend

The Lake George Trolley will begin operating Friday, May 24 with trolleys running every 20 to 30 minutes from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. The trolley has two routes: Route 876, the Glens Falls-Lake George Trolley, travels from Glens Falls to Lake George Village with service to Lake George RV Park, the shopping outlets and the Great Escape. Route 877, the Lake George-Bolton Trolley, travels from the Village to Diamond Point, Hearthstone Campground and Bolton Landing. The fare is $1; children aged 5 and younger ride free.

The Trolley service began in 1994 and has proved to be vital for visitors and workers. This year, for the first time, it will be operated by The Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) following a merger with Greater Glens Falls Transit this past January.

“CDTA is thrilled to begin operating the Lake George Summer Trolley Service with an expanded schedule that includes longer operating hours,” said CDTA CEO Carm Basile. “We’re also excited to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the Lake George Summer Trolley. It’s important that we support the community with easing traffic congestion and parking needs, as well as provide businesses with a mobility option for their employees. We look forward to a busy summer season in Lake George, and we hope visitors and residents take advantage of our menu of mobility options.”

In a CDTA press release, Lake George Regional Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Gina Mintzer said, “For three decades, the Lake George Trolley has been more than just a mode of transportation— it has been a lifeline for our community, seamlessly connecting visitors to our beautiful attractions and providing seasonal workers with reliable and affordable transit. This service has promoted sustainable tourism and supported the local economy by ensuring that both visitors and workers can move easily and efficiently throughout the area. The impact of the trolley service on our community is immeasurable, enhancing the overall experience of our region for everyone.”

The Lake George Trolley will run through Columbus Day Weekend.
