Million Dollar Beach to open Memorial Day Weekend; hours expanded for 2017 season

Lake George Beach, better known as Million Dollar Beach, will be open for swimming Saturdays and Sundays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 27 to June 11, New York DEC Commissioner Basil Seggos announced Wednesday. June 16 through Labor Day, the beach will be open every day, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Beginning Memorial Day Weekend, the public will have access to the beach from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. for picnicking and relaxation, although beach visitors may not enter the water unless a lifeguard is on duty.

Million Dollar Beach has undergone several updates over the past two years, including a new boat launch and reconfiguration of the parking lot to provide more spaces. The DEC is completing the addition of a new gate on the west end of the beach, which will allow pedestrian access from Beach Road. The state is also extending the street lighting along the sidewalk west of the beach. The state expects these improvements to be finished by the end of June.
