Fire companies from across the region dressed in their finest and marched down Canada Street and Beach Road in the Hudson Valley Volunteer Fireman’s Association’s Dress Parade on Saturday. The parade was the second in as many days, with a less formal, float-filled Mardi Gras parade being held on Friday evening. The parades were a highlight of the HVVFA 137th Convention, which was held in Lake George, June 10 – 13.
Joining the fire companies were their Ladies’ Auxiliaries, fire trucks, and a variety of bands — fife and drum corps, marching bands, jazz bands, bagpipe and drums, and even xylophones.
The parade stepped off from the northern end of Lake George Village at 1 p.m. and traveled south down Canada Street to Beach Road, where it turned and continued to the Lake George Steamboat Company’s Steel Pier. The two-hour parade had nearly 60 entries, and judges moved throughout the marchers, taking notes. Trophies were awarded in multiple categories.
Warren County Sheriff and New York State Police led the parade, followed by an Escort Division of Red Knight Motorcycle Club riders, local fire companies, and the Lake George American Legion Color Guard. They were followed by four divisions of fire companies from the Hudson Valley Region.
