The 7th Annual Rockin’ for Ronald McDonald House Charities Festival kicks off in Shepard Park on Friday, July 31, and continues through Sunday, Aug. 2. The event is a fundraiser for Ronald McDonald House Charities’ Kranz Cottage. The festival includes a three-day craft show, live music performed by local and regional bands, bounce houses, pony rides, balloon artists and food and beverage vendors.
The craft show hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. Bounce houses and pony rides will open at 4 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
The music begins at 6 p.m. on Friday with Super 400, a Troy-based trio with an impressive 25-year recording and touring history across the United States and Europe. Headliner The Refrigerators take the stage at 7:30 p.m. for a two-hour performance. The Refrigerators have been voted as the area’s top band multiple times in Metroland, the Schenectady Gazette and the Times Union fan polls.
Saturday’s music lineup begins at 4 p.m. with the Jonathan Newell Family Band. Jonathan Newell is a classically trained pianist, guitarist, singer and teacher. Jonathan Newell is a local favorite, and the Family Band is truly family, with his wife, Jennifer, providing vocals and their sons, Evan and Brandon, on guitars and vocals.
The Newell Family Band will be followed by Jukebox Rebellion at 6 p.m. Celebrated as a top Upstate New York party band, Jukebox Rebellion will be joining the Rockin’ for Ronald House Charities Festival fresh off their performance at the America 250 celebration at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C.
The Accents will headline Saturday night from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. The nine-piece group will be performing soul, R&B, and rock favorites with their signature harmonies. All bands will be performing on the newly dedicated Shepard Park Performance Stage on the Lake George shore.
Admission to the festival is free. Proceeds from sales will benefit Krantz Cottage. Krantz Cottage, on Ottawa Street in Lake George Village, opened in July 2021 as a Ronald McDonald House Charities’ first-of-its-kind program to provide families experiencing serious childhood illnesses with a much-needed break from doctor’s appointments and hospital visits.
Over the past five years, the Ottawa Street cottage has hosted more than 165 families, who, at no cost to themselves, were able to vacation in Lake George and experience all the region has to offer, allowing them to make memories and enjoy restorative family time together outside of hospital walls.
