Top bands in town for Labor Day Weekend

Summer is winding down in Lake George, but it’s not going out with a whimper. The live music scene is looking good for Labor Day Weekend, the season’s last hurrah before everyone packs away their flip-flops for the winter. The weather still says “summertime,” and you can expect the lake, the beaches (as of this writing, the Lake George Beach is reopened) and parks to be packed with people soaking in the rays before autumn’s cooler temperatures move in. A few notable music events dominate this upcoming weekend’s nightlife.

Friday, Sept. 2, will be the last show of the Fridays at the Lake Bands and Brews concert series in Shepard Park. Glens Falls rock band Red Shift opens at 4 p.m. followed by Skeeter Creek at 6. Skeeter Creek has been a regional country music favorite for more than a decade and has racked up an impressive list of awards with Albany-area media outlets. They’ve opened for top national acts including the Charlie Daniels Band. Bands and Brews is free. The brews can be found under a beer tent along with local wine. Grumbellie’s food truck will be in the park for the hungry and bounce houses for the kids.

Saturday, Sept. 3, New York City rock band THE DIVES, featuring Evan Stanley (yes, he is the son of KISS musician Paul Stanley), will be playing King Neptune’s Summer’s End Concert and Dance Party.  The band covers 60s,70s and 80s hits with their originals thrown in. The show runs from 10 p.m. through midnight. $10 cover charge. Neptune’s kitchen will be open. King Neptune’s Pub is on the Lake at 1 Kurosaka Lane.

Sunday, Sept. 4 is King Neptune’s Labor Day Weekend Labor Jam featuring four bands for one money. Tickets are $10 at the door.
