Veterans Day Ceremony to be held at Fort William Henry’s Field of Flags

Fort William Henry’s Annual Field of Flags ceremony will be held this Veteran’s Day, Nov. 11, 2022, on the hotel lawn, 48 Canada Street. The ceremony, which will honor veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces, will begin at 10:30 a.m. with a special salute at 11 a.m. The time and date — the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month — is a tradition marking the anniversary of the 1918 Armistice that ended WWI. The event is open to the public.

Following the ceremony, an Italian buffet lunch will be served in the hotel’s Tankard Tavern. The menu includes minestrone soup, garden salad, garlic bread, penne pasta marinara, meatballs marinara, chicken marsala, a vegetable selection and assorted desserts.

The lunch price is $24 per person. Net proceeds from the ticket sales will benefit the Adirondack Vets House Inc. of Glens Falls, a non-profit home for homeless veterans. More information on the Adirondack Vets’ House is available at Adirondack Vets House, Inc. Tickets for the lunch may be purchased online at https://www.fortwilliamhenry.com/veterans-day-lunch.

Each November, Fort William Henry creates the Field of Flags with small American flags that are labeled with the names of veterans, living and deceased. The names have been collected over the past several years from visitors to the Fort William Henry Museum. The flags are arranged by era dating back to the Colonial wars.

Nearly 8,000 flags filled the field in 2021, and those who wish to honor veterans they know are invited to add their veterans’ names for future displays. For more information about adding a name to the Field of Flags, contact Anna Arkins, Collections Manager, at (518)668-5471 EXT. 654.
