Eat fresh, buy local: Warrensburgh Farmers’ Market opens for its 19th season

Farmers, bakers, craft beverage makers, artists and musicians will return to the banks of the Schroon River this Friday, May 26, for the opening of the Warrensburgh Riverfront Farmers’ Market. The seasonal market, now in its 19th year, offers fresh produce, organic meats, poultry and eggs; fresh baked goods, flowers and plants, maple products, honey and locally produced wine, beer and cheeses. The market also features non-food vendors selling handmade crafts, soaps and lotions. This is a producer-only market with an emphasis on locally grown products.

The Warrensburgh Riverfront Farmers’ Market runs Memorial Day Weekend through Columbus Day Weekend each Friday, 3 – 6 p.m.  It is located Warrensburg’s Historic Mill District on County Route 418 (River Street, directly across from Curtis Lumber.) Live music is provided most weeks by local musicians.

On Saturday, May 27, the Warrensburg Beautification Committee will hold its annual Green Thumb Perennial Swap at the Farmers Market site on River Street from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Those with established perennial gardens may bring some of their plants, in any type container, to swap with others. New gardeners will find expert advice on soil and light requirements along with information about specific plants.

Bring a sample of your garden soil for free PH testing (and if you don’t know why you need your soil PH tested, the Master Gardeners will fill you in.) The Warren County Soil and Water Conservation District will be giving away native tree and shrub seedlings at the perennial swap.

The Warrensburg Riverfront Farmers Market is a member of the Pride of New York program and participates in the NYS Dept. of Agriculture and Markets Farmers Market Nutrition Program for WIC and Seniors. Parking is plentiful and free.
